On May 12, 2009, Ctrip announced the distribution of 100,000 Golden Panda Cards for tourists to Chengdu. The Panda Card project aims to trigger the tourism consumption and contributes to the rebuilding of the city after last year¡¯s earthquake.
By the end of June, anyone who books flights to Chengdu, appointed hotels in Chengdu or holiday products through Ctrip will receive free Golden Panda Cards. Or the customers can obtain the same card from Ctrip Resort Experience Center at local airport or train stations.
As the only presentation of the event (¡°Caring about Sichuan, Experiencing Best Traveling¡±), the Panda Card is sponsored by Chengdu government and undertaken by Chengdu Tourism Administration and Chengdu Culture and Tourism Group. Before December 31, 2009, tourists of Sichuan Province can visit 11 key state-owned scenic spots for free by using the Golden Panda Cards, including Dujiang Dam, Mount Qingcheng, Xiling Snow Mountain, Ski Resort in Xiling, Wuhou Temple, Du Fu¡¯s Thatched Cottage, Jinsha Monument, Yongling Mausoleum Museum, Panda Breeding Base, Liu¡¯s Manor and Mount Tiantai.
Moreover, the Golden Panda Card can be topped up in some appointed places for the customers to enjoy discount on food, accommodation, traveling, shopping , entertainment etc. in the members of Best Travel Alliances.
According to the Vice President of Ctrip, Mr Tang Lan, Ctrip will bear the cost of the Panda Card for the customers and distribute the cards to the end customers through all possible channels. He says that tourism is the pillar industry for Chengdu and Sichuan. Traveling in Sichuan is one of the best ways to support the reconstruction of Sichuan after the disaster. Hope more people will go to Sichuan to travel and spend.

During Labor Holiday, a lot of tourist cities were much pro-gazed by the travelers. As a result, the hotel price went up. After the holiday, some hotels in the tourist cities have lowered their prices, although some short-distance tours are still popular.
Up to the mid of May, the average rate of 3, 4 and 5 star hotels in Gulin are RMB200, RMB300 and RMB700 accordingly and are RMB250, RMB400 and RMB750 in Hangzhou and Xiamen. Lijiang¡¯s situation for each star (from 3 to 5) hotels is RMB280, RMB380 and RMB950, which is slightly down compared with the Labor Holiday rate. As for Beijing and Shanghai, it is similar to the holiday rate and is about RMB300, RMB500 and RMB1000. Only in Sanya and the other few cities, the hotels rates have dropped substantially.
